Dog Days
The “dog days of summer” are in full force here at the Zanders homestead. The older I get, the less tolerant I am of the 3 Hs: haze, heat, and humidity. I think it’s probably a good thing I don’t live in the South.
Fun fact for you: they’re called “dog days” because historically, they follow the rising of the star system Sirius, a.k.a., the Dog Star. Yep. I’m a geek.
Anyway… the excessive temps and hotter than normal summer are on par with a generally lousy year.
On the plus side, it’s not all bad. I’m getting to spend lots of quality time with my college kids, including teaching them how to cook from scratch. We’re also accomplishing a bunch of home improvement projects that have been on the to-do list for a long time. My kids are already talking about this year being the one they’ll tell their kids about someday.
Things will get better, and this too, shall pass. And you know what? When this pandemic is in the books and we all go back to “normal,” I think I’ll remember the good moments a lot more than I will the bad.
Stay safe
