Lexi

Lexi Callaghan hated to leave the warm embrace of her husband’s arms. One of the positives of the stay-at-home mandate meant they got to linger in bed longer every morning – definitely not a hardship since Ian was very much a “morning person.” And an afternoon person. And a late-night person…

In fact, Ian was quite accommodating regardless of the time of day, and she got to reap the benefits.

She kissed his chest and forced herself to roll away. Ian protested by reaching out and tugging her right back. “Not yet.”

She sighed, surrendered, and allowed herself a few more minutes.

Outside their bedroom window, the sun was shining. The birds were singing. Chipmunks and squirrels chattered. It was hard to believe there was so many awful things happening beyond their personal bubble of happiness.

Living as they did in Lexi’s grandmother’s place, they were more remote than other members of the family. That made it easier to practice social distancing. Easier, but not easy. Ian was used to working from his home office, but Lexi spent most of her days at the Celtic Goddess and was used to the organized chaos of the kitchen and the social interaction that came with it.

Now, the restaurant was eerily empty, closed to those who wished to dine in. The ballrooms, hauntingly quiet as weddings and other events were postponed. That didn’t mean the place was closed, however. They had switched gears to provide take-out meals, which meant the kitchen was still open, though they were operating at a limited capacity.

Not for profit, though. She and Aidan both agreed that there were more important things than money, especially in times of crisis. Those who could afford to pay, did; but the majority of meals were being offered at low or no cost to members of the community who could most benefit.

Her only issue: they were doing it without her, because she was immunocompromised.

Aidan had basically forbidden her from stepping foot in the kitchen and both Ian and her doctor-brother-in-law Michael had agreed wholeheartedly. Her disease meant that she was more susceptible to contracting the virus than most and more likely to die if she did.

She understood it, but she certainly didn’t have to like it. Thanks to Michael and the combined efforts of those around her, she’d been living “normally” for so long, this felt like a huge step backward.

Admitting that she couldn’t do something was difficult enough, but if someone else fell sick because they were covering for her…

“Stop it,” Ian commanded softly. He knew her so well. “Aidan is keeping a very close eye on things and ensuring that everyone is following proper protocols. He’s not taking any chances, not with them, not with the people they serve, and certainly not with you.”

“I know. I just feel like I should be there, you know? I want to help, and I can’t.”

“Don’t be so sure about that, baby.”

She lifted her head, propped her chin on his chest, and asked, “What’s that supposed to mean?”

He pulled her so her body rested flush atop his. “Just something Aidan and I have been working on.”

“More collusion?”

One side of his mouth lifted in a cocky smirk. “If you want to label it that way, sure, let’s go with that.”

He flexed his hands on her ass and ran a finger lightly along her cleft. She shivered in response. There wasn’t a part of her that Ian hadn’t laid claim to, and he liked to remind her of that. She didn’t mind. She’d made quite a few “Property of Lexi” claims herself over the course of their ongoing love affair.

She lifted and took him into her body, allowing a moment to savor the sensation.

“Thinking to use your feminine wiles to obtain information, Mrs. Callaghan?”

“Absolutely. Got a problem with that?”

Ian

“None whatsoever.”

There was no better feeling than being inside his woman, feeling her lush body blanketing his as she sought her pleasure. He’d fully intended to surprise Lexi this morning regardless, but if she thought to sweeten the pot with her generosity, he wasn’t stupid enough to say no.

She moved leisurely up and down his shaft, taking her time, drawing out the pleasure of each stroke. There was no hurry. They’d already softened the sharpest edges earlier. He’d woken with her spooned against him, his raging morning wood easing into her welcome depths before either of them had even opened their eyes.

Her soft moans were music to his ears as he stroked her back and allowed her to set the pace, rolling her hips, grinding her sensitive clit against him to get what she needed. When she began to tighten around him, he grasped her hips and thrust hard and true from below, driving them both to blissful completion.

“Did it work?” she mumbled against his chest.

“Flawlessly,” he confirmed with a possessive pat on her ass. “Most effective means of obtaining information there is. Feel free to use me like that anytime.”

“Okay. Spill.”

“Pretty sure I just did.”

“Ian!”

“Okay, okay. But you need to get dressed first.”

“Why?”

“Because I said so.”

She rolled her eyes. He briefly considered rolling her beneath him and making her wait, but he couldn’t wait to show her what he and Aidan had come up with.

When they reached the kitchen a short while later, Lexi looked around at the new equipment Ian had spent half the night installing. Multiple, strategically placed webcams, new lighting, an audio system, and a state-of-the-art flat screen mounted on a motion-sensitive track.

“What is all this?” she asked.

“Welcome to your new cooking studio. A way for you to be there without actually being there.”

He pressed a button on the remote and the flat screen came to life. Lexi and Ian appeared in one corner, while the majority of the screen showed members of the Celtic Goddess kitchen staff waving and calling out happy greetings.

Lexi waved back, her eyes shiny. “Hey, guys! Is everyone doing okay? Taking care of yourselves?”

“We’re doing great,” her sous-chef Phoenix confirmed.

Another square appeared as Aidan joined them live from his in-home office, grinning widely. “Hey, Lex. I know how hard it is for you to stay away, so Ian and I came up with a way for you to join in safely. Next best thing to being there.”

“This is incredible!”

“Well, most people are working remotely from home these days, so why not you, too? This way, you can keep an eye on things and share some of your new creations.”

“Who says I’m creating new things?”

The entire kitchen staff laughed. “Because you are always creating new things, Lex. And with the stress of being away from your crew? I figure you must have at least a dozen new dishes to add to the specials.”

“Two dozen,” Ian confirmed, patting his stomach, “and they’re all delicious.”

A subtle alarm chimed and Aidan leaned forward. “Sorry, I’ve got another meeting. Carry on. Lex, and call me later,” he commanded before his image winked out.

After getting a video updates from the rest of the kitchen staff, Lexi made plans to reconnect around noon and disconnected the live feed.

“So, what do you think?” he asked.

She wrapped her arms around his neck. “I think you are the most wonderful, thoughtful, tech-savvy man I’ve ever met. Thank you.”

“You’re welcome, baby.”

He lowered his head and kissed her. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to see his croie smile. And if it meant he got to field-test some new gadgets, all the better.

“Ugh, they’re doing it again,” their daughter Kate groaned from the far end of the kitchen.

“Why can’t you be like other parents and get on each other’s nerves?” her older brother Patrick added.

“Because,” Ian said, looking over Lexi’s head, “that is not how it works with croies.”

And thank God, it never would.
