Sometimes All You Need is a Pint

Jake nods as you give your answer, his smile easy and unpressured. “Fair enough,” he says, sliding another pint across the bar. “Sometimes, a good drink and a warm place to wait out the storm are all you need.”

Ian leans on the bar, his grin as quick as ever. “Don’t let Jake fool you. He likes to play it cool, but deep down, he’s just a big softy who wants everyone to feel at home.”

“Ian,” Jake says, his tone calm but carrying a note of warning.

“What?” Ian says, holding up his hands in mock surrender. “It’s true.”

The brothers’ banter washes over you again, their teasing dynamic both comforting and slightly overwhelming. There’s a part of you that wants to sink into it, to let the warmth of their camaraderie wrap around you—but another part that hesitates.

Shane, sitting quietly at his usual spot, catches your eye. “Don’t let them rush you,” he says simply, his tone steady. “Sometimes it’s enough just to take the first step.”

Michael, leaning casually against the dartboard, nods in agreement. “Starting over isn’t a race,” he adds. “It’s more about figuring out what matters—and that takes time.”

“Of course, if you stick around, we’re more than happy to help,” Ian says with a wink, his grin widening. “No pressure, though.”

The brothers laugh, their easy camaraderie filling the pub with warmth. You find yourself smiling despite your best efforts to remain cautious.

Jake places his hands on the bar, his gaze steady but kind. “The thing about Pine Ridge is, you don’t have to figure it all out at once. Just take it one step at a time.”

His words settle over you, their simplicity grounding yet strangely inviting. Maybe it’s the storm outside, or the quiet hum of the pub, but you find yourself wondering—what if Pine Ridge could be more than just a stop along the way?

Ian breaks the reflective moment with a playful clap of his hands. “All right,” he says, his grin back in full force. “Another pint, a game of darts, or are you calling it a night?”

The question lingers as the brothers’ attention shifts back to their own conversations, giving you a moment to breathe.
